Overview
Our perspective
We believe in the power of energy to transform lives, enhance communities, advance human progress, and sustain our planet.
With global population forecast to increase by two billion over the next 25 years, even more energy will be required to meet rising demand. It will take all available sources of energy to fill this need — both legacy and alternative sources. And while alternative energy sources are steadily making advances, they will not be capable of meeting future demand alone. Even as we transition to a low emissions future, hydrocarbon-based energy sources will be counted on to meet the bulk of the world’s energy demand well into the future.
We’re committed to driving energy efficiency and addressing the global emissions challenge. And as the world’s largest integrated oil and gas company, we believe we are uniquely qualified to make effective contributions to the overall solution.
We have already demonstrated the potential of technology to reduce emissions from both mobile and stationary sources. We are also capturing emissions and turning them into useful industrial products and manufacturing feedstocks that boost economic growth and job creation. These successes, along with other strategies, have given us one of the lowest CO2 footprints in the oil and gas industry.
At Saudi Aramco, we are proactively doing our part to reliably and sustainably provide the energy products that enable people to seize opportunities that can transform our world.

Crude oil to chemicals
Together with SABIC in our family of companies, Aramco is working to commercialize innovative crude to chemicals technologies, positioning us as a preeminent player in the global petrochemicals industry.
Our C2C technologies aim to remove or streamline several conventional industrial processes, resulting in chemicals that are less expensive to produce while at the same time reducing the carbon footprint associated with the use of our oil.
For those who dwell outside the chemicals world, the program’s objective sounds relatively simple — the direct and optimized conversion of crude oil to chemicals. But chemical engineers and chemists know the reality behind this seemingly straightforward proposition. And at the Research and Development Center (R&DC) in Dhahran, our scientists are determined to break new ground.
Inside R&DC, the expansive research facility at our Dhahran headquarters, our scientists are busy at work. Some are engrossed in fuel technology research, while others are immersed in optimizing the combustion engines of the future.
Whiteboards are covered in complex formulas— the inner thoughts of some of our brightest minds. With a diverse research agenda spanning sustainability, midstream and downstream, here technology moves fast.
To help reach our C2C goal a host of collaborations, acquisitions, and joint ventures have already taken place. In parallel, an ambitious technology strategy is in full swing at the center.
