Role of the Board of Directors

The primary role of the Board of Directors is to provide institutional leadership to the Company, within a framework of prudent and effective controls enabling risk to be assessed and managed. This role has been fully illustrated through the Articles of Association of the Company and its relevant by-laws, the Commercial Companies Law No. (11) for 2015 and Corporate Governance Code for Companies and Legal Entities listed on the main market issued by Qatar Financial Markets Authority, in particular articles (8) and (9), which were incorporated as a Charter of the Board in a special section of the Corporate Governance Manual.

Sh. Faisal Bin Thani Al Thani

Chairman of the Board

H.E. Sheikh Faisal Bin Thani Al Thani is the Chief of Asia-Pacific & Africa Investments at Qatar Investment Authority (QIA), and the Chairman of the Board of Directors at Ooredoo Group.

In his role at QIA, one of the world’s largest sovereign wealth funds, H.E. Sheikh Faisal Bin Thani Al Thani is responsible for leading the regional investments in multiple sectors and diversified asset classes in Asia, Africa, and the Middle East.

His Excellency has previously held the position of Chief Investment Officer at Qatar Foundation Endowment. He also played key leadership roles in the Investment Department at Qatar Central Bank. In addition, he was the Chairman of Qatar Banking Studies and Business Administration Secondary School and the Deputy Chairman of Vodafone Qatar, as well as being a Board member at Ahli Bank, Qatari Diar, Nakilat, Bharti Airtel and Siemens Qatar.

H.E. Sheikh Faisal Bin Thani Al Thani is currently the Chairman of Qatar First Bank, and Board member at Qatar Insurance Company, Deputy Chairman of Boyner Retail & Textile Investments Inc. in Turkey,

H.E. Sheikh Faisal Bin Thani Al Thani holds a degree in Business Administration from Marymount University in the USA and an Executive MBA from HEC Paris.

 

Dr. Nasser Marafih

Deputy ChairmanDr. Nasser Marafih is Member of the Ooredoo Group Board and Advisor to the Ooredoo Group Board‘s Chairman. He was Chief Executive Officer of the Ooredoo Group from 2006 until November 2015. He also served as Ooredoo Qatar CEO from 2002 until 2011.

Born in Doha, Qatar, Dr. Marafih holds a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering, a Master of Science and a Ph.D in Communication Engineering, all from George Washington University, USA. Dr. Nasser started his career at Ooredoo in 1992 as expert advisor from the University of Qatar and was involved in the introduction of the first GSM service in the Middle East in February 1994. He joined Ooredoo Qatar in February 1994 as a Director for Strategic Planning & Development and led a number of strategic projects including the introduction of the Internet service in Qatar in 1996 and the privatization of Ooredoo Qatar from a government owned company to a publicly listed company in 1999.

In his role as CEO, Dr. Nasser has spearheaded Ooredoo’s global growth in recent years to expand to 15 operations in Middle East, North Africa and South East Asia, including Ooredoo’s acquisition of Wataniya Telecom, Ooredoo’s strategic partnership with ST Telemedia in Singapore, as well as the company’s purchase of a controlling stake in Indosat of Indonesia.

In addition, Dr. Marafih serves as Chairman of the Board of the GSMA Mobile for Development Foundation and as a member of the Board of GSMA. He also serves as a commissioner to the ITU Broadband Commission for Sustainable Development and he is a member of the World Bank Group Advisory Council for Gender and Development.

Dr Nasser ranked #41 among the 100 powerful Arab leaders in 2015 and he has appeared in the ranking since the launch of the list in 2013.

 

Aziz Aluthman Fakhroo

Aziz Aluthman Fakhroo is Managing Director and CEO of Ooredoo Group since November 2020. He has been a Board member of Ooredoo Group since 2011.  

Previously, he served as Deputy Undersecretary for Budget, Treasury and Financial affairs at the Ministry of Finance.  

Prior to that, he was the Co-head of Mergers and Acquisitions at Qatar Investment Authority. He is also a Board Member at Accor SA since 2015.  

In March 2021, he was appointed as Board member of KATARA Hospitality and member of the Board of Trustees of Qatar Museums. In December 2021, he was appointed on the Board of Commissioners of Indosat.  

Aziz  Aluthman Fakhroo holds a Bachelor degree in Business Administration from ESLSCA University. 

 

Sheikh Saud Bin Nasser Al Thani

Member

Sheikh Saud joined the Board in 2021. He was Group Chief Executive Officer from 2015 to 2020. He was also Ooredoo Qatar’s CEO from 2011 to 2015.

Sheikh Saud holds a Bachelor of Arts in Public Administration from Western International University, in Phoenix, Arizona. He also holds a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration. He joined Ooredoo in 1990 (previously Qtel), where he has handled key projects like the restructuring of the organisation in 1998, the structure review in 2000 and the job evaluation and compensation review with Ooredoo’s auditors KPMG. As Ooredoo Qatar’s CEO, he has led the expansion of the company’s products and services portfolio, making Qatar one of most successful and consistent markets in the Group. During his tenure as Group CEO, he initiated and successfully led the company’s digital transformation, leaving a lasting impact on customers across the Group’s global footprint.

He has held key positions across the Ooredoo Group, including Chairman of the Board for Ooredoo Kuwait; Deputy Chairman of Ooredoo Oman; and Deputy Chairman of Asiacell. He is also a Board Member for Arabsat; Board Member for Hellas-Sat; and Board Member for INJAZ Qatar.

 

 

Yousef Al-Obaidly

Member

Mr. Al-Obaidly joined the Board in 2020. He is the CEO of beIN MEDIA GROUP (“beIN”). As one of the most respected executives in the world of sport and entertainment, Mr. Al-Obaidly manages the single largest portfolio of sports rights in the world as the head of beIN MENA, beIN SPORTS France, Americas and Asia-Pacific. He is also the CEO of Digiturk and responsible for MIRAMAX studios. Mr. Al-Obaidly is a board member of Paris Saint-Germain Football Club; Paris Saint-Germain Handball; Qatar Tennis Federation; Qatar Sports Investments and Qatar Satellite Company Es’hailSat. In January 2020, SportsPro Media named Mr. Al-Obaidly as one of only 10 “Influencers in the world of sport” whose work will be setting the global agenda in 2020, alongside the CEOs of Nike, Quibi and others. Mr. Al-Obaidly brings a wealth of experience in international business to the Board.

 

 

Essa Hilal Al Kuwari

Eng. Essa Bin Hilal Al-Kuwari, is the President of Qatar General Electricity & Water Corporation “KAHRAMAA”. He is the Chairman of the Board of Qatar National Broadband Network (QNBN) and a Board member of NAKILAT. Beside his membership in various technical committees in the state, he represents Qatar as BoD member of Gulf Cooperation Council for Electricity Interconnection Authority (GCCIA), beside some other regional and international committees.

Eng. Al-Kuwari also has some academic contributions such as chair of the Steering Committee of Texas A&M University’s Smart Grid Centre – Qatar, Vice Chairman of Hamad Bin Khalifa University Board of Trustees and member of Qatar University’s Advisory Council for the faculties of Engineering and Economics. Eng. Essa Bin Hilal Al Kuwari brings substantial business and technical expertise to the Board.

 

H.E. Mohammed Bin Nasser Al-Hajri

H.E. Hajri, who joined the Board in 2021, is the Director of Studies and Research at the Emiri Diwan. He is also Minister Ranked at the Emiri Diwan since 2015.

H.E. Hajri is with the Emri  Diwan since 1995, where he has held several key positions, including Economic Researcher at the Office of H.H The Emir, Head of Development Studies – Studies and Research Department, Head of Studies and Research Affairs, Acting Director of Studies and Research Department and Undersecretary. Being a graduate in Administration and Economics from Qatar University and having followed a number of specialised programmes in economics and leadership at London School of Economics (LSE) and Harvard, he brings a wealth of experience to the Board.

Turki Mohammed Al Khater

Mr. Al Khater, who joined the Board in 2011, is the President of General Retirement and Social Insurance Authority, Chairman of Dlala Holding, Board Member of Masraf Al Rayan, and a Board Member of Al Ahli United Bank in Bahrain. He has previously held the position of the Managing Director and Undersecretary of Health Ministry of Hamad Medical Corporation, and brings significant experience in business and finance to the Board.

 

 

Nasser Rashid Al-Humaidi

Mr. Al-Humaidi, who joined the Board in 2011, is Executive Director – Operations & Support of Qatar Development Bank and IT Director of Qatari Diar. Prior to his current positions, he led various management and business technologies roles in multi-industry sectors including utilities, telecom, oil & gas, real estate and banking and contributed to national steering committees. This diverse background brings a wealth of experience that will contribute significantly to the Ooredoo Board.

 

 

Abdulla Mubarak Al-Khalifa

Mr. Abdulla Mubarak Al-Khalifa, who joined the Board in 2018, is Group Chief Executive Officer of QNB. Prior to his current position, he was Executive General Manager – Chief Business Officer at Qatar National Bank. He brings over 23 years of strong experience in business, finance, risk management, M&A, sales and marketing, and strategic planning to the Board.

Sheikh Ali Bin Jabor Al-Thani

Chief Executive Officer of Ooredoo Qatar

Sheikh Ali Bin Jabor Al-Thani was appointed Chief Executive Officer of Ooredoo Qatar in January 2023.

Most recently, Sheikh Ali Bin Jabor Al-Thani was the Group Chief Legal, Regulatory & Governance Officer, a position he held from March 2020 until his appointment as CEO of Ooredoo Qatar.

In this role, Sheikh Ali oversaw Ooredoo’s global legal activities and policies, as well as ethics, brand protection, compliance and regulatory affairs, including process automation and anticipation of future transactional needs. He was responsible for the provision of progressive, strategic and proactive advice to the Board and Executive Management on all aspects of governance, policies, global legal compliance and regulatory frameworks across the group.

Prior, Sheikh Ali was the Group’s Chief Corporate Governance Officer from January 2018 until March 2020 is the Secretary of the Board since 2018.

Sheikh Ali joined Ooredoo Group in 2013 and served in a number of roles, including Chief Legal and Regulatory Officer of Ooredoo Qatar.

 

 

Noor Al-Sulaiti

Chief Executive Officer – Ooredoo Oman

Noor Al-Sulaiti was appointed Chief Executive Officer of Ooredoo Oman in May 2021.

She joined Ooredoo in 2004 and was most recently CEO of Starlink, a leading Ooredoo Group retail chain and IT service provider in Qatar. During her time as CEO of Starlink, Noor made a considerable impact on the market by rebranding and expanding the portfolio and capability of the company, enabling it to compete in e-Commerce, retail and ICT.

Previously, she was the General Manager of Phono and Fasttelco in Kuwait.

Noor Al-Sulaiti brings a wealth of experience and expertise gained over 17 years of progressive and rotational roles in the Telecom industry.

Noor holds a Bachelor’s in Computer Science from the University of Qatar and a Master’s degree in Business Administration – Strategic Management from the University of Plymouth.

 

 

Abdulaziz Yacoub Al-Babtain

Chief Executive Officer – Ooredoo Kuwait

Abdulaziz Yaqoub Al-Babtain has decades of experience in many business fields, telecommunications, technology, and sales in particular. As a pioneer leader with a proven track record of driving success, and leading the development of the company’s short- and long-term strategy, Abdulaziz has accomplished tremendous achievements across B2B sales, Marketing, Information and communications technology (ICT) solutions, and Digital Sales along with supporting executive leaders within the company, including directors, vice presidents, and presidents.

Abdulaziz widely commended for his passion and commitment to leadership, seeking to make a difference as an enabler of change, advocating for the region’s IT sector and using his own story of achievements to stimulate progress in the realm of technology and sales.

Abdulaziz has a wealth of experience and has charted and executed business and sales strategies across numerous leading entities within the country and the region, with a focus on technology, telecommunication, and banking. In decision making, he has the ability to make decisions, to make the right timely decisions with the greatest value.

Currently, Abdulaziz is the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Ooredoo Kuwait. Before joining Ooredoo Kuwait, he was the Chief Operating Officer at FASTtelco.

He holds a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Portland State University and also holds a range of certificates; Project Management Professional (PMP), Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA), and IMD leadership certificate, and George Washington (IT PMP).

 

Mansoor Rashid Al-Khater

Chief Executive Officer – Ooredoo Tunisia

Mansoor Rashid Al-Khater was appointed CEO at Ooredoo Tunisia in November 2019.

Mansoor joined Ooredoo in 2009 and has held several senior roles, the most recent being Group Chief Strategy Officer for Ooredoo Group.

As the Group Chief Strategy Officer, Mansoor was responsible for driving the Group Strategy development, cascading the Strategic direction to the Group and OpCos and ensuring delivery and execution of the Group’s Strategy.

Prior to this, Mansoor held the position of Chief Strategy Officer at Ooredoo Qatar, where he contributed towards the division’s Strategic Business Plan on an annual basis, facilitated corporate performance reviews and interacted with key stakeholders to enhance operational performance.

Mansoor has more than 20 years’ engineering and business experience, including an 11-year career at Qatar Petroleum.

Additionally, Mansoor serves on the Board of Asiacell, Iraq (an Ooredoo Group member). He is former Board Member of Arabsat, Al Jazeera Network and an ex-member of Qatar Museums Authority Board of Trustees.

In addition to attending a number of professional and industry training programmes in Qatar and abroad, Mansoor holds a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from Qatar University, an M.B.A from Hull University and a Masters degree in Emergency & Disaster Management from Georgetown University.

 

Bassam Yousef Al Ibrahim

Chief Executive Officer – Ooredoo Algeria

Bassam Yousef Al Ibrahim was appointed Chief Executive Officer of Ooredoo Algeria in May 2021.

Most recently, he was Deputy Chief Executive Officer of Ooredoo Algeria from March 2020 to May 2021.

Bassam has over 20 years of experience in the telecoms industry and he has held a range of senior positions within Ooredoo Group, including Deputy Chief Procurement Officer – Strategic Sourcing.

He joined the company in 2013 in the IT software department, and gained significant experience at a senior management level, having held several managerial positions in the areas of Telecoms, information technology, project management and procurement.

Bassam has also served on numerous Boards within the Group, and is a long-standing member of the Board of Ooredoo Palestine and the Chairman of the Audit committee.

He holds a Bachelor of Engineering in Telecommunications Engineering from the University of Essex, Colchester and an Executive MBA from HEC Paris. He has also attended several training courses at many Ivy league universities around the world.

 

Amer Al Sunna

Chief Executive Officer – Asiacell

Amer Al Sunna, Chief Executive Officer of Asiacell Iraq, previously held the position of Managing Director within the organization since February 2013. He brings 20 years’ experience to his role, garnered in a range of senior executive positions at high-profile organisations around the world.

Amer initially joined the Ooredoo family as Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of wi-tribe Jordan in August 2010, followed by a role as Chief Operating Advisor (COA) for wi-tribe Philippines in August 2011.

Prior to his roles at wi-tribe, Amer was CEO of three specialised telecommunications and internet service companies owned by VTEL Holdings, in the Commonwealth of Independent States, working in Ukraine, Armenia and Georgia.

He has also been Group Chief Operations Officer (COO) at Orange Jordan.   Amer remains dedicated to improving customer experience in the communications industry. He has played a key role in the growth of the telecoms sector in his home country of Jordan.

He graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from Jordan University.

 

Durgham Maraee

Chief Executive Officer – Ooredoo Palestine

Dr. Durgham Maraee is the CEO of Ooredoo Palestine. He has extensive experience in the telecom industry as well as in business management and investment management. Under his leadership, Ooredoo Palestine delivered strong growth in market share, subscriber base, revenue, EBITDA and net profit year after year.  Dr. Maraee also oversaw the successful launch of the company’s commercial services in the Gaza Strip, as well as its highly successful launch of 3G services in the West Bank.  

Before joining Ooredoo, Dr. Maraee served as the Chief Investment Officer of the Palestine Investment Fund (“PIF”), the sovereign wealth fund of the State of Palestine. At PIF, Dr. Maraee managed an 800 million USD investment portfolio and supervised the development of many new investment initiatives that aimed at promoting economic growth in Palestine in various economic sectors such as telecom, energy, housing, finance, and manufacturing.  Prior to that, Dr. Maraee worked as a consultant at the Boston Consulting Group (BCG) in New York City, where he provided strategic advice to leading American and international companies in various economic sectors.  

Dr. Maraee holds a master’s and doctorate degrees in International Law from Harvard University. 

 

Vikram Sinha

President Director & CEO of Indosat Ooredoo Hutchison

Vikram Sinha was appointed as the President Director and Chief Executive Officer (PDCEO) of Indosat Ooredoo Hutchison (IOH) at the Extraordinary General Meeting of Shareholders (EGMS) dated 28 December 2021.

Vikram is a global telecom executive having worked in various markets of Asia and Africa. Before being appointed as the PDCEO of IOH, Vikram has served as Director & Chief Operating Officer at Indosat Ooredoo since 2019, Vikram served as Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Ooredoo Myanmar (2017-2019) and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Ooredoo Maldives (2014-2017). He also served as Chief Operating Officer (COO) of Bharti Airtel Ltd, Congo (2014) and the Managing Director of Bharti Airtel Ltd, Seychelles (2012-2013). Prior to this, Vikram served in various leadership capacities in Bharti Airtel India (2005-2012). He also started his career at major companies such as Coca Cola Ltd. and Star TV India.

Vikram spearheaded turn-around of operations to establish Ooredoo as a significant market player in Maldives, Myanmar, and Indonesia. In addition, Vikram also serves as a Board member in Ooredoo Maldives and Ooredoo Oman (since Dec 2021), Ooredoo Myanmar (since Apr 2019), and a Board of Commissioner (BOC) for Lintasarta, a subsidiary of Indosat Ooredoo (since Mar 2020).

He earned a Bachelor of Business Administration in Marketing from Bangalore University in 1998, followed by a post-graduate degree in International Management from International Management Institute (IMI), New Delhi in 2002.

 

 

Khalid Al-Hamadi

Managing Director & Chief Executive Officer – Ooredoo Maldives

Khalid Al-Hamadi was appointed Managing Director & Chief Executive Officer of Ooredoo Maldives in February 2022.

He joined Ooredoo Qatar in 2008 and has several years of experience in the telecommunications industry. He has served as a Board Director at Ooredoo Maldives from 2017 to 2021 and has previously held several senior positions at Ooredoo Qatar including Senior Director in Consumer Sales and Assistant Director of Planning & Development.

Additionally, he brings a rich experience of over 15 years in the Oil and Gas industry. Khalid was Head of Quality at Qatargas, where he received the Manager Director Award for Excellent Performance in 2003.  He has worked with General Electric in Florence, Italy, where he used to be the Head of Planning and Strategy and was key to implementing the reorganization initiative in Sales and Service.

Khalid is an experienced and a certified Quality Auditor with distinguishing knowledge about management system, creative initiatives, continuous improvement, processes implementation, statistical analysis and is a certified training manager. He played a key role in conducting internal and external assessments for Ooredoo, as well as developing a number of systems such as KPI monitoring and handling corporate studies for the whole organisation.

Khalid holds a Bachelor of Science in System Engineering from the University of Arizona and is a graduate of the Executive Program at Qatar Leadership Centre.

Aziz Aluthman Fakhroo

Group Managing Director and CEO

Aziz Aluthman Fakhroo is Managing Director and CEO of Ooredoo Group since November 2020. He has been a Board member of Ooredoo Group since 2011.  

Previously, he served as Deputy Undersecretary for Budget, Treasury and Financial affairs at the Ministry of Finance.  

Prior to that, he was the Co-head of Mergers and Acquisitions at Qatar Investment Authority. He is also a Board Member at Accor SA since 2015.  

In March 2021, he was appointed as Board member of KATARA Hospitality and member of the Board of Trustees of Qatar Museums. In December 2021, he was appointed on the Board of Commissioners of Indosat.

Sheikh Mohammed Bin Abdulla Bin Mohammed Al Thani

Deputy Group Chief Executive Officer

Sheikh Mohammed Bin Abdulla Al Thani is Ooredoo’s Deputy Group Chief Executive Officer since March 2020. 

 From 2020 to 2023, Sheikh Mohammed also held the position of Chief Executive Officer of Ooredoo Qatar, where he strategically steered the company through the challenges of the pandemic and successfully led the operation to its greatest successes, including Ooredoo’s record-breaking achievements during the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022™. 

He has extensive experience in communications, digital transformation, finance and accounting, and has held various management positions within Ooredoo since he joined the company in 2009.    

Sheikh Mohammed is currently the Chairman of the Board of Directors of Ooredoo Kuwait, Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors at Asiacell Iraq and Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors at Ooredoo Oman.   

Previously, he was CEO of Ooredoo Kuwait and President Commissioner of Indosat Ooredoo, where he achieved great success. 

He holds a Master’s degree in Finance and Accounting from the University of Cardiff, UK and a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting from Qatar University.

 

Ahmad Abulaziz Al Neama

Group Regional CEO

Ahmad Al Neama is Group Regional Chief Executive Officer at Ooredoo Group since January 2022 and oversees the strategic evolution of six Operating Companies: Ooredoo Algeria, Ooredoo Tunisia, Ooredoo Palestine, Ooredoo Maldives, Ooredoo Myanmar and Indosat Ooredoo Hutchison. His focus is to create synergies around digitalisation, business consolidation and partnerships to grow core business areas, and to drive top-line growth to maximise cost-efficiencies.

Ahmad is Chairman of the Board of Directors of Ooredoo Algeria, Ooredoo Tunisia, Ooredoo Myanmar, and Vice-Chairman of the board of Ooredoo Palestine, as well as Commissioner at Indosat Ooredoo Hutchison

Previous key roles include President Director & Chief Executive Officer at Indosat Ooredoo from May 2019 to December 2021, Group Chief Technology Officer at Ooredoo Group from July 2017 to May 2019 and Chief Sales & Services Officer at Ooredoo Qatar from June 2015 to July 2017.

Ahmad joined Ooredoo Qatar in 2004 and built his career taking on several roles and functions including Director of Demand and Project Management, and Senior Director of Radio Networks, bringing extensive experiences in telecoms and network engineering, as well as B2C and B2B/ICT sales and operations.

A BSc holder in Electrical Engineering from the University of Colorado at Denver, Ahmad has over the years received further qualifications from the HEC Leadership Academy, Qatar Leadership Center, Arab Leadership Academy and Cranfield University & IMD, as well as additional specializations in Digital Signal Processing, Advanced Electromagnetic Fields Control and Methods of Engineering among others from leading institutions.

 

Abdulla Ahmad Al Zaman

Ooredoo Group Chief Finance Officer

Mr. Abdulla Ahmed Al-Zaman was appointed as Ooredoo Group Chief Finance Officer in March 2021. Previously he was CFO at Ooredoo Qatar since January 2018, after joining the Group in 2013 and holding multiple senior roles including Directorship positions on key Ooredoo internationals operating companies.

He is responsible for facilitating organisational accountability and transparency, maintaining a long-term sustainable value for shareholders and other stakeholders.

Mr. Al-Zaman has over 18 years highly accomplished broad-based leadership experience, in Telecommunications, Transportation and Oil & Gas industries. He holds a bachelor’s degree in Finance & Business Administration from California, USA, and an EMBA from the University of Hull, UK.

 

Dr. Hamad Yahya Al Nuaimi

Group Chief Board Affairs Officer

Dr. Hamad Yahya Al Nuaimi was appointed Group Chief Corporate Affairs Officer at Ooredoo in April 2020.

In his current role, Dr. Hamad provides extensive support to the offices of the Chairman, Group CEO and Deputy Group CEO and coordinates communication between the Board of Directors and Ooredoo’s senior management.

Dr. Hamad is also responsible for managing Ooredoo’s senior stakeholder relations with key national and international figures and institutions, including heads of states, ministers, government agencies and international organisations.

Prior to his current role, Dr. Hamad was Chief Corporate Affairs Officer at Ooredoo Kuwait.

He has an extensive and accomplished career of over 27 years in the finance, communications, media and telecoms industries and has held senior roles at QNB, which has seen its brand value jump to USD 1.3 billion, and Al Jazeera, which became among the world’s top 5 brands, during his tenure.

Dr. Hamad holds a PhD in Marketing from the UK in 2005, Marketing Research and Development.

 

Sheikh Nasser Bin Hamad Bin Nasser Al-Thani

Chief Corporate Affairs Officer

Sheikh Nasser Bin Hamad Bin Nasser Al-Thani was appointed as Chief Corporate Affairs Officer in January 2023.

He has 20 years of experience, five of which are in the public sector and 15 are within Ooredoo.

Before taking up his current role as Chief Corporate Affairs Officer, Sheikh Nasser was Chief Commercial Officer at Ooredoo Qatar, where he oversaw the B2B, B2C and the Marketing units. 

Previously, he was Chief Business Officer of Ooredoo Qatar, responsible for end-to-end profit and loss accountability for Ooredoo Qatar’s B2B portfolio including Connectivity, ICT and Mega Projects as well as the Qatar Data Centre. 

Sheikh Nasser holds a bachelor’s degree in Business and Economics from Qatar University and a MBA from the University of Wales, as well as a Telecoms Mini MBA from Telecoms Academy, UK.

In addition, he has completed several executive courses in leadership and innovation at HEC Paris, London School of Economics (LSE), IMD Switzerland and Harvard Business School (HBS).

 

Fatima Sultan Al Kuwari

Group Chief Human Resources Officer

Fatima Sultan Al Kuwari is Ooredoo Group’s Chief Human Resources Officer (CHRO) since April 2021 and the Chairperson of Ooredoo Maldives since December 2021. 

She is an experienced telecommunications executive, with more than 16 years of experience in commercial, marketing, product development, digital transformation, vendor-relationship management and brand & communication. She is also the first woman in the history of Ooredoo Kuwait to be appointed as a Board member of the company. 

Before taking-up her role as the Group’s CHRO, Fatima was Ooredoo Qatar’s Chief Consumer Officer. Previously, she was Ooredoo’s Acting Group Chief Commercial Officer (CCO). 

In her current position, Fatima is leading the company’s strategic human resources management and transformation, and working on creating a more modern, efficient and agile way of work. 

Fatima joined Ooredoo in 2006 and served in a number of senior roles, including Ooredoo Group’s Executive Director of Marketing and Ooredoo Qatar’s Director of Public Relations and CSR. 

She holds a B.S. in Computer Science from University of Qatar, an Executive Masters in Leadership from Georgetown University, USA and an MBA (specialising in Marketing) from the University of Liverpool in the United Kingdom. 

 

Saim Yaksan

Group Chief Transformation Officer

SaimYaksan was appointed Group Chief Transformation Officer in October 2021.

He has over 22 years of experience in Telecommunications, IT and Financial Services industries across mature and emerging markets around the world. Saim has successful record of large scale business transformations for several Telecom Operators, Digital & Fintech and Technology companies.

Prior to joining Ooredoo, he was Senior Vice President at McKinsey with focus on transformation and ICT. Previously, Saim was Group Chief Transformation Officer for MTN leading multiple business turnarounds by establishing new digital revenue streams and cost efficiencies. He had various senior roles as CEO of MTN Cameroon, Group Chief Procurement Officer and CEO of MTN Sourcing Companies. Saim has also held several senior roles at Vodafone Group and as CPO in Vodafone operations.

Saim holds a Masters degree in Business Administration from the University of Cologne, Germany and participated in Erasmus scholarship program studying at Dublin City University, Ireland.

 

Bilal Kazmi

Ooredoo Group Chief Consumer Officer

Bilal Kazmi was appointed Ooredoo Group Chief Commercial Officer in January 2022. 

He has over 25 years of experience in leadership roles, including P&L accountability across the commercial value chain for a USD 1B turnover company. Bilal has extensive experience in Distribution, B2B, Wholesale, Customer Care and New Product Development. He also has experience in implementing complex, large-scale telecom projects, including digital transformation, structural changes and strategic partnerships. 

Before taking up his current position, Bilal was Group Chief Commercial Officer (Acting) for a short period before being confirmed in his current position. Previously, he was Executive Director Sales at Ooredoo Group, Commercial Investments & Portfolio – Gulf OpCos.  Prior to that, he was Chief Commercial Officer at Telenor Pakistan, where he successfully built a sustainable model of subscriber growth and customer centricity.  

Bilal was also Board Member at Telenor Long Distance Communication. 

He holds a Masters degree in Business Administration, with Distinction, from Lancaster University Management School in the UK and a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Engineering & Technology in Lahore. 

 

René Werner

Group Chief Strategy Officer

René Werner was appointed Ooredoo Group Chief Strategy Officer in March 2021.

He has over 22 years of experience in the telecommunications and technology industries with a focus on corporate strategy, mergers & acquisitions, corporate finance, customer experience and customer service/retail operations and mobile internet/data.

Before joining Ooredoo, he was Senior Director – Global Customer Experience/Global Service Delivery – Europe & RoW at eBay Inc. Prior to that, he worked with Axiata, where he had several senior roles and spearheaded the turnaround of its home market operations as Chief Customer Service & Experience Officer with a radical digitalisation focus which won numerous international awards. René was as well having various senior roles at Deutsche Telekom Group with his last one being Senior Vice President Group Strategy (acting) at Deutsche Telekom Group after a career in management consulting.

He holds a Masters degree in Business Administration from the University of Massachusetts (USA) and a Masters degree in Industrial Engineering from the University of Karlsruhe (K.I.T) in Germany.

 

Christian Linhart

Group Chief Procurement Officer

Christian Linhart was appointed Ooredoo Group Chief Procurement Officer in February 2016, after a successful period as Ooredoo’s Executive Director of Group Procurement.

Christian first joined Ooredoo in 2015 and has played a key role in the company’s ongoing organisational transformation programme, which aims to align Ooredoo’s local procurement and sourcing strategies more closely with its global capabilities.

Before joining Ooredoo, he was Deputy Group Chief Procurement Officer in MobileTelesystems (MTS).

Christian has more than 20 years’ experience in the procurement field, with 13 years as a management consultant with McKinsey and A.T. Kearney across Telecom & High Tech, Automotive & Aerospace and Retail sector.

He has received a number of significant industry awards, including a 2012 Global Procurement Leader Award, and the Russian Procurement Transparency Award, in 2011 and 2012. In 2018 and 2019, he was honoured to be a jury member for the Global Procurement Leaders Awards, and in 2018 nominated among the top 3 CPO in APAC.

He has a joint Master’s degree in Business Administration and Mechanical Engineering from the Technical University of Darmstadt, Germany (with excellence) and he has also spent a year at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, US (Dean’s List).

 

Mohammed Abdulkhaliq Al-Emadi

Group Chief Audit Executive

Mohammed Abdulkhaliq Al-Emadi was appointed as Group Chief Audit Executive (GCAE) in November 2011.   

Since his appointment, he has successfully transformed the Internal Audit Function into a Group Internal Audit.  

Mohammed has 21 years of professional experience in the audit field, 13 of which are in Ooredoo’s Internal Audit. 

He is responsible for providing assurance and consulting services to Ooredoo Qatar, Ooredoo Group and Starlink, as well as supporting Internal Audit functions in the Operating Companies.  

 He holds a B.S. in Accounting from Qatar University and a Master’s degree in Accounting and Finance from Southampton University, UK.

Board committees

Role of Board Committees

In order to make the decision-making process more efficient and to support the vision relating to corporate governance, the Board has three main committees: Executive Committee, Audit and Risks Committee and Nomination and Remuneration Committee.

Each committee is composed of not less than three Board members (to be appointed by the Board), taking into account the experience and capabilities of each Board member participating in the committee. The Board may substitute the committee members at any time.

Each of the Board committees works in accordance with a written charter approved by the Board of Directors that clarifies its responsibilities and authorities. The charter of each committee has verified that it is in line with the Corporate Governance Code and Articles of Association of the Company and the Commercial Companies Law No. 11 for 2015, and the Corporate Governance Code of the Qatar Financial Markets Authority.

A. Executive Committee:

The executive committee is comprised of four members and aims to ensure that decisions are made at the highest levels, to achieve the Company’s objectives in a flexible and timely manner in accordance with the authority delegated to the committee by the Board of Directors.

The committee is also responsible for studying issues that need detailed and in-depth review before presenting to the Board for final decision. It also oversees Ooredoo’s strategy and methods deployed for adopting financial and strategic investments

B. Audit and Risks Committee:

The committee is comprised of three independent members, and it assists Ooredoo’s Board in overseeing the integrity of the Company’s financial statements. It also provides consultancy to the Board on the efficiency and adequacy of internal control systems and arrangements for risk management. The committee is also responsible for ensuring that internal and external audit functions are independent and objective.

The committee reviews the annual internal audit and auditors’ reports, and prepares reports on issues arising from auditing the Company and its subsidiaries, including management reaction; the level of cooperation and information provided during the audit process; and the usefulness of the audit report versus cost.

The committee also sets up communication channels between executive management and internal and external auditors.

In addition, the Committee reviews risk management reports, and advises the Board on all matters that need attention and seek a decision. The Committee also puts great emphasis on investigating any violations in the Group’s companies.

C. Nominations and Remunerations Committee

The committee is comprised of three members.It assists the Board in executing its responsibilities in regards to nominating and appointing Ooredoo Board members, and Board members of its subsidiaries, and determining the remuneration of the Chairman and members of the Board, and the remuneration of members of the senior executive management and employees. The committee also takes part in assessing the performance of the Board.

Ooredoo owns a 25 percent stake in AMH, a mobile investment company formed in 2007. The remaining 75 percent stake is owned by Singapore Technologies Telemedia (“ST Telemedia”). Together ST Telemedia and Ooredoo are committed to exploring and investing in new opportunities as well as strengthening existing businesses in the Asia Pacific region. AMH is incorporated in Singapore.

AMH has a 56.0 percent stake in StarHub Ltd (“StarHub”) which equates to an Ooredoo effective stake of 14.0 percent. Launched in 2000 StarHub is afully integrated communication company offering a full range of information, communications and entertainment services for both consumers and corporate markets.

Shenington Investments Pte.Ltd

AMH has a 49 percent stake in Shenington Investments Pte.Ltd (“Shenington”). Shenington has a 49 percent shareholding in Lao Telecommunication Company Limited (“LTC”), which equates to an Ooredoo effective stake of 6.0 percent. LTC is the largest telecoms operator in Laos.
