The project Almer was started with the question “What does it take to make useful Augmented Reality (AR)?” by students and researchers at ETH and Tsinghua University.

We learned a lot about the challenges of making AR useful by assembling technology prototypes in Shenzhen.

After a year of further research, we decided to found Almer as a company.

Almer Technologies is a Swiss startup that develops, reality augmenting (augmented reality) glasses that can display information to the user in reality. Thanks to this digitalization, industrial companies, laboratories, logistics centers can make better use of technology and thus massively increase their efficiency. Almer Technologies is supported by the Swiss Agency for Innovation Promotion, Innosuisse.

What’s Next?

We are now getting ready for our Pilot A production, which will take place in August 2022 and build 200 to 500 Swiss-made AR glasses that will be delivered to our pilot clients across Europe.

There are presently just a few openings for our Pilot, which will begin near the end of 2022.

Almer launches AR glasses for remote support.

Bern – Almer Technologies is bringing to market its first augmented reality (AR) solution. The startup is providing a complete ecosystem of hardware and software with its remote support glasses for the technology industry together with its own app and web interface.

Almer Technologies receives funding.

Bern – Almer Technologies has received 150,000 Swiss francs of funding from Venture Kick. The startup based in Bern develops augmented reality glasses for technical industries. It now plans to increase its market presence.

The support initiative Venture Kick is providing Almer Technologies with 150,000 Swiss francs of funding according to a press release. The startup based in Bern develops augmented reality glasses for use in technical industries. They aim to help technicians remedy machine problems remotely.

Technical experts can use the glasses to experience the viewpoint of an on-site worker and can even highlight objects there in real time. The glasses are equipped with special software for this. According to Almer Technologies, the glasses stand out from similar solutions on the market due to the simultaneous perception of reality and additional virtual information. Other advantages mentioned by the startup are the battery capacity, personal correction, and foldable temples.

Almer Technologies now plans to use the funds to strengthen its market presence and build up its sales team in Switzerland. Production is anticipated to begin in August and the first deliveries are scheduled for September.

The startup was founded by graduates from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Zurich (ETH) and entrepreneurs. It has already received support from Venture Kick amounting to 40,000 Swiss francs last fall. CEO Sebastian Beetschen commented: “Venture Kick gave us the kick to transform Almer from a tech project to a growing business.”

The support initiative Venture Kick assists startups from the idea phase to company founding. The Venture Kick foundation has commissioned the IFJ startup institute represented in Schlieren, St.Gallen, and Lausanne with implementing the initiative.
